Step 5: Now, double click the file having the .xml extension and then open it using XML editor.

Step 6: Press the function “Ctrl” plus “F” and then locate “SheetProtection.” Next, check for a line containing the line shown in the picture below.

Step 7: After locating the line in step 6 above, delete it, and save it.

Step 8: Next, rename the extension of the file back to “.xlsx” from “.zip.”

Step 9: Finally, open the Excel file and access its content without having to enter a password.

Method 2. Unlock Password Protected Excel File with VBA code (for Excel 2010 and lower)

This is yet another way you can use to unlock a protected Excel file. The VBA code method compatible with office 2010 and earlier versions. It is important, however, to ensure you follow the laid down steps carefully and accordingly. The steps are as follows:

Step 1: Firstly, open the password-protected Excel worksheet.

Step 2: Press the command “Alt” plus “F11.” This command will then open up the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications.
